Wine Regions
Because great wine can come from different regions, we don’t follow a prescriptive sourcing plan from vintage to vintage. Multi-region sourcing allows us to choose the best grapes for our wines, regardless of traditional winegrowing boundaries. Rather than limit ourselves by institutional boundaries like county lines or AVAs, our only rule in the vineyard and in the winery is to make the best wine possible.
Napa County
Home to world-class wines, this small appellation is big in reputation. Napa's varietals are as varied as the soils and mesoclimates of its 14 sub-appellations. Moving toward the northern half of Napa Valley – and away from the Pacific Ocean – warm, sunny days give Napa's grape varieties ample time to ripen, while the cooling effect of nighttime marine fog lets them retain excellent acidity. We look to Napa for incredible Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay grapes.
Sonoma County
Bordered by the Mayacamas mountain range to the East and the Pacific Ocean to the West, Sonoma's sub-appellations experience both coastal and inland influences with cool and warm growing areas. We find superior grapes for our Cabernet Sauvingon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Zinfandel wines in Sonoma.
Monterey County
The cooling breezes of Monterey Bay contribute to a lengthy growing season in this coastal appellation. This translates to grapes with intense flavors and a bright acidity. Monterey is home to the world-renowned grapes that are blended into our Chardonnay.
San Joaquin County
With a grape growing history that dates back to the Gold Rush, San Joaquin's most notable appellation, Lodi, is famous for old-vine Zinfandel. Lodi's rich, fertile soils and sun-drenched vines give us jammy, red fruit flavors for our Zinfandel blend.
Lake County
The Vaca and Mayacamas mountain ranges converge in Lake County to overlook one of the oldest lakes in North America. The region's high-elevation vineyards bask in abundant sunlight, giving the grapes intense color and flavor. Lake County grapes lend a touch of dried herb flavor to our Ghost Pines Cabernet Sauvignon.
