Winemaking

Winemaking

Our unconventional approach to winemaking—with its emphasis on the pursuit of character and quality over traditional representations of winegrowing regions—makes for an exciting, free-form concept for wine today. The result is a collection of sophisticated wines that illustrate the best characteristics of each varietal and region, balancing elegance with structure, intensity with nuance.

Meet Our Winemaker

A Sonoma County native, Winemaker Aaron Piotter finds the perspective this experience has afforded invaluable for seeking out the best grapes for Ghost Pines wines.

As a Viticulture and Enology student at the University of California at Davis, Aaron gained exposure to two sides of the wine industry, working in the cellar at Sebastiani Winery and waiting tables at a local restaurant that specialized in high-end wines.

Following graduation, Aaron worked harvest at ZD Wines in Napa Valley before he was offered an assistant winemaker role at Viansa Winery in Sonoma. Aaron later headed back to Napa Valley to be the associate winemaker for Franciscan Estates—where he worked on Mt. Veeder, Quintessa and Estancia—before he was drawn to Sonoma once again to tackle the role of head winemaker at Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery in Healdsburg. He joined Ghost Pines in 2014.

Multi-region sourcing allows us to choose the best grapes for our wines, regardless of traditional winegrowing boundaries.
